After you’ve set up the rig, head over to the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre, which is a fascinating facility that showcases various events and contributions from the region. Highlights include an examination of early coal mining, as well as the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway and the 1903 Frank Slide, an avalanche and rockslide for which this center was named. One Tank Trip for South British Columbia Camping

This One Tank Trip as seen in the 2010 Woodall’s North American Campground Directory. Starting off in Vancouver, one of the first things you notice about the city is how clean it is. In fact, it’s rated as one of the cleanest cities in North America. Even though it’s a major metropolitan area, the air is surprisingly clear. The streets are swept and the buses and trolleys are graffiti-free. You’ll find a coffee shop on virtually every corner, and there’s always a poetry reading or live music going on somewhere. Take a walk through Stanley Park, which sprawls over several acres and allows you to lose yourself among the trees as you follow the winding trails. Be on the lookout for the dark brown ground squirrels, which are only too happy to block your way and demand food for allowing you to pass through their turf. The aquarium at Stanley Park features many exhibits of fresh and salt water fish, some of which are rare or endangered. Traverse further through the park and you’ll... [Read more...]

One Tank Trip for Alaska Camping

This One Tank Trip seen in the Woodall’s 2010 North American Campground Directory. When we think of Alaska, our first impulse might be to shiver at the very thought of a vacation in this icy wonderland. One Tank Trip for Yukon Camping

This One Tank Trip seen in the Woodall’s 2010 North American Campground Directory. There’s a mystique about the Yukon that’s larger than life. The name itself conjures images of prospectors and fur trappers hauling their gear across miles of frozen snow, hardy and rugged spirits that struggled against the elements to tame a harsh, forbidding land and shape it into the civilized, awe-inspiring destination it is today. Destruction Bay is easily one of the most colorfully-named towns in the Yukon, so-called because of the ferocious winds that blew down structures designed for highway construction during the early ’40s. Now, it’s a fantastic staging area for chartering a fishing trip on Kluane Lake, where catching a 40-pound trout is a definite possibility. Hike through the mountains overlooking the lake, or see the staggeringly awesome view from the top of a glacier. Make sure your camera’s charged and ready for photo opportunities; this area is home to a variety of wildlife,... [Read more...]

One Tank Trip for Montana Camping

This One Tank Trip seen in the Woodall’s 2010 North American Campground Directory. Philosophers have asked: What’s in a name? In the case of Montana, plenty. Early settlers called this region “The Land of Shining Mountains”, and with good reason; some of the most magnificent mountain ranges in the entire U.S. are found right here. The broad expanses of blue sky stretch as far as you can see, and Montana’s rich natural beauty truly makes it one of the jewels in our nation’s crown. It’s a land where the rugged spirit of adventure lingers to this day, challenging all who visit. Let’s kick this one tank trip off in Bozeman, which has a well-deserved reputation for being the premier destination for a Rocky Mountain getaway.
