So You Want to Buy an RV???

Are you ready to make the investment for your next BIG toy? Considering buying a recreational vehicle? If so, you might want to consider first renting different styles/sizes of RVs, before making a choice on which one to ultimately purchase. There are many things to consider, including price, size (length), and type (fifth wheel, gooseneck, or ball hitch). Not to mention all of the extras, such as sliders, electronic add-ons, and such. To ensure you feel comfortable with the choice you will eventually make, why not take a couple practice runs and rent different RVs from Camping World RV Rentals? This way you will hopefully avoid having buyer’s remorse once the big purchase has been made and you are “stuck” with your choice. Spend a few weekends or even weeks over the summer when you can try different RVs to really zero in on what you would feel comfortable with owning long term. Some things to take into consideration when thinking in terms of size…many campsites have a maximum length... [Read more...]

Human Encounters with Bears Turn Deadly

Recent media reports detail numerous human encounters with black bears. This black bear wants his food and he is waiting patiently. DO NOT FEED BEARS! (Source: Thomas J/travelooce.com) In most instances the bears became food-conditioned, lost their natural fear of humans, and become a threat as they roamed in search of an easy meal. These bear was either relocated or euthanized by rangers because they posed an obvious human safety risk to campers. Several samples of these reports follow. Black Bear Killed at Yellowstone Campground The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports that a black bear that refused to leave a Yellowstone National Park campground after getting a taste of human food there was killed by park staff. The 142-pound adult male black bear entered the Canyon Campground and came within six feet of a man and woman eating. The campers backed off, and the bear ate some of the food off their table. It then went through their garbage and pawed at their tent. As the bear left their campsite,... [Read more...]

Is Earthbound’s Future in Doubt?

Marion, Indiana-based Earthbound Recreational Vehicles LLC shut down production at its factory about six weeks ago. Previously, the factory had been running “smaller” production for three months with 15 employees, reduced from around 50 earlier in the year, according to Earthbound President Charles Hoefer. The City of Marion backed a $2 million bond with county economic development income tax (CEDIT) money to support its startup in 2010. The company never met expectations to hire around 180 employees to produce 400 or more RVs a year. Officials at dealerships across the country say they are concerned about the future of Earthbound Recreational Vehicles, according to a report by the Indiana Economic Digest. Shifts in the company’s business strategy have left some dealers with long-standing ties to the company and its owners feeling left in the dark. “We were always hoping to be a part of their success, but right now I feel that we are in limbo,” said Bill Mirrielees, general manager... [Read more...]

The Seattle RV Show is On Now!

The Seattle RV Show is currently taking place at Qwest Field. Celebrating its 48th year, this mega event was quite helpful when we chose our  Aerolite travel trailer  many years ago. We wanted to upgrade from our Coleman pop up trailer and decided that the best way to make our decision was to visit the show. My husband was leaning towards a different model than I was.  I really wanted  the  Aerolite for a variety of reasons. First of all, it was lighter and easier to tow. Secondly, it was fairly compact to store, but the expandable beds on the end gave us more room when we were actually camping. I also loved the tentlike beds on the end, which give the feeling of being in a tent but offered the comfort of a camper.  When it came to sell my husband on that model, we sat in the camper and I pointed... [Read more...]
