Randy and Nancy are veteran RV campers that travel with their little Dachshund, Oscar, to "where ever their hearts lead them." They have five grandchildren, at least one of them often accompany Randy & Nancy on their outings. Their camping rig is a 39' Cedar Creek Fifth Wheel pulled by a 2004 Volvo HDT retired from 18 wheeler service. Like the Volvo, Randy is a recently retired professor and Dean from a major technical college, has degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Education, is a Certified Electronic Technician, Master Electrician, Long time Ham Radio Operator (WB4BZX) and 30 year veteran of Virginia's Emergency Medical System as both an Advanced Life Support EMT and instructor.

GO TO A HAMFEST – A RV or Camper’s Goldmine Awaits.

Lot’s of campers and RV’ers, are HAMS!  No, I’m not talking about the ones that like acting as if they were in a play or movie.  I’m not making a derogatory reference to those that have a tendency to overeat, either.  I’m talking about a different kind of HAM.  This kind of HAM can actually be anyone of any size and their ages may range from middle school to the most senior of Senior... [Read more]

EVERY RV TOOL BOX SHOULD HAVE THEM

EVERY RV TOOL BOX SHOULD HAVE THEM

Next to a roll of duct (or duck) tape, a package containing an assortment of zip-ties is one of the most important “fix-it” items you can put in your RV toolbox. First introduced under the name of Ty-Rap in 1958 by Thomas & Betts for assembling airplane-wiring harnesses, the zip-tie has evolved to include every conceivable function – including handcuffs often used by law enforcement.  Today... [Read more]

SAVE 75% or MORE ON YOUR NEXT CORDLESS TOOL BATTERIES (Yes, I like saving money!)

SAVE 75% or MORE ON YOUR NEXT CORDLESS TOOL BATTERIES (Yes, I like saving money!)

Battery powered tools can be the mainstay for many RV’ers that like to be prepared for both unexpected needs and maintenance when away from home. I carry a full complement of 18-volt Ryobi power tools, including a drill, flashlight, reciprocating saw, handi-vacuum, and a small chain saw.  Other tools such a air compressors, radios, saber saws, circular saws, and leaf blowers also operate off of... [Read more]

I LIKE SAVING MONEY!

I LIKE SAVING MONEY!

I like saving money. Do you like saving money? Hey – I bet you think I am getting ready to front yet another insurance commercial.  You know, switch from Lizard to Mastodon, save $500 a year, then switch from Mastodon to Flogressive, and save even $500 more but if you come back to Lizard you can save even $385 more than Allstale, which is $275 lower than E-Assurance? Nope – this one is for real... [Read more]

DRIVE YOUR RV LIKE A TRUCKER!

DRIVE YOUR RV LIKE A TRUCKER!

I would like to ask you a question. It is a tough question – not only to answer honestly, but for me to ask because I KNOW it could be interpreted (wrongly) as an insult to your inner ego. Are you really qualified to safely drive your RV? And if you answered yes (or even no ), the next question is: Do you always adhere to the rules and regulations that outline safe driving practices for RVs? If... [Read more]

SHINGLES, CHRISTMAS 2011 and HAPPY 2012 CAMPING

SHINGLES, CHRISTMAS 2011 and HAPPY 2012 CAMPING

WOW – Christmas came and went so fast it is hard to realize it was ever here!  It’s not like it was when I was a kid and the days, hours and minutes crept by slower than molasses dripping out of a jar on a cold day.  Now, time just flies by – you know, ZAP!  One day you are 20 and before you know it 40 is here.  Then, blink your eyes and 65 appears.  Don’t believe me?  Just wait and see... [Read more]

A Really Nasty Bug

A Really Nasty Bug

A winter-night’s dream finds me walking through the middle of a tall grassy field ablaze with warm sunshine, songbirds singing, and butterflies darting about.  Nearby is a brook overflowing with large rainbow trout hungry for the fly on the end of my line.  As the sun sets, we will dine on trout cooked over glowing campfire embers. . My dream excludes the reality of chiggers, ticks, mosquitoes,... [Read more]

Hunting and Camping go together like Bacon and Eggs.

Hunting and Camping go together like Bacon and Eggs.

For some, I am sure, the mention of deer hunting as Santa is readying his sleigh for his Christmas journey is in poor taste.  But, rest assured, Rudolph and the other eight reindeer are perfectly safe in their indoor, heated stalls at the North Pole.  Besides, Santa retired the reindeer in favor of rocket engines fused to his sleigh’s runners years ago as the world population began to explode. I... [Read more]

Get ‘em While You Can!

Get ‘em While You Can!

My guess is you are probably not associating the holiday decorating items displayed on merchant shelves with your summer camping adventures. STOP!  Think about this a minute – many desirable items will not be as inexpensive or available later on as they are right now. Most all of us enjoy putting “patio lights” on our awning, screen room or around our campers during the summer.  They not only... [Read more]

The Magellan RoadMate Pro 9165T GPS Made for RVers – Part 1

The Magellan RoadMate Pro 9165T GPS Made for RVers – Part 1

Having a reliable GPS riding shotgun with you in a large RV is probably the best way to keep your rig out of trouble. Note the word “reliable” – it is absolutely the key to avoiding dead end roads and low bridges with a rig that is 3 times (or more) the size of an average four-wheeler. Conventional GPS units simply do not suffice for RV use. They have no setting to determine routing based on... [Read more]
