Trick or Treat Camping
My little flower A few years ago we discovered trick or treat camping. For those of us in the Northeast, it’s a great way to wind down camping season. I mean really, could you ask for a better time, camping and free candy?!?!? My kids are all over that! Friday night, there’s a flurry of activity as those who are so inclined decorate their campers and sites with all sorts of ghosts, goblins and... [Read more]
What are we going to eat?
It’s the next question after where are we going? And since I don’t want to disappoint, I do try to put some thought into what will be on the menu for the trip. waffle with fresh plum jam Last trip we were out for 5 nights, so I did some serious meal planning, nothing difficult to cook, but still tempting to the taste buds. Waffles with homemade plum jelly were a hit and a little less sticky then... [Read more]
Camping With a Group
I am not an expert by any means and I know what works for some doesn’t always work for other, but I thought I’d share my philosophy on group camping, since it seems to work out well for us. The group decided to all go peach picking Try to camp with like minded individuals, if you’re a laid back type of person and you’re camping with another camper who feels the need to plan out every minute... Head out to the local fair
One of the great things about going somewhere new is checking out the local culture. Whether it’s going to a new restaurant to try a new food (got hooked on NC BBQ that way) or visiting a local park, we love to experience new things. Another great way to experience an area is visit their local fair. Just use the County Fairs web site to see if there’s a fair where you’ll be camping. Dairy show... [Read more]
Smokey Mountain Knife Works
The boys took a trip to Tennessee with MFAE back in May. They suggested I tell everyone about Smokey Mountain Knife Works and Kelgin Knife Maker’s Co-Op. So for those planning on taking a trip to the Smokey Mountains, you might want to add this to your trip itinerary. Smokey Mountain Knife Works is a store full of beautiful artwork that just happens to be knives, swords, etc. From small pocketknives... [Read more]
Visit the Virginia Aquarium
So while we were in Virginia Beach the other week (and it was humid enough to cut the air with a knife) we decided to cool off and visit the Virginia Aquarium. This is a wonderful hands on place for kids of all ages and there’s more then just fish there too! The harbor seals When you pull into the main parking lot you’ll see the Harbor Seals greet you as you walk up the walkway. These... [Read more]
Visit Holiday Travel Park in Virginia Beach
We’ve been to almost all the other areas of Virginia (which is a great state to visit no matter where you’re at) so we decided we’d head to Virginia Beach this summer. I looked up Woodall’s and decided on Holiday Travel Park. The girl taking the reservation was very polite and was a good indicator of how well we’d like our stay. We checked in Saturday night and even though... [Read more]
Camping at the Beach
Summer is in full swing now, so whether you’re headed for the brisk waters of Maine, the boardwalk along the Jersey, DelMar shore, or out to the Outer Banks of NC I thought I’d share some useful tips for those who are going for the first time (and for those who have been there I might even have a useful tip for you too!) Ocean City Maryland Be prepared, I can’t stress this one enough,... [Read more]
A Clean Trailer Makes for a Happy Camper
Or at least Hubby is a happy camper. In honor of Father’s Day on Sunday, I’d like to talk about the guys who take such pride in their rigs. They shine them up before each camping trip, they wash, wax and even scrub if they have to. Hubby is one of those men, so I thought I’d talk about how he keeps the trailer so nice. Little Man helping Hubby clean the camper Black marks are a scourge to... [Read more]
Everybody Has A Job
Early on in our camping adventure, like before we even bought the camper, Hubby had decided it would be a team effort when we went camping. As we were all thinking about how perfect this 3 bunk Sunline was for our family, Hubby told the twins, we’ll buy it, but only if you promise to help every time we go out camping. The boys were both in agreement, and so off to find the salesman we went. Helping... [Read more]
