When you’re too chicken to paint…
One of the things that I have wanted to do since going fulltime 2 years ago, has been to decorate the rv. Now, I’m really not opposed to the neutral color scheme that each of our rvs has come with, but to leave them totally unaltered has seemed somewhat impersonal for our ‘home’. I know lots of other families on the road that have been brave enough to paint their rvs, and while... [Read more]
Grant Kohrs Ranch, Deer Lodge, MT…
We have found a fun, relaxing National Park, that is much different than any others that we have been to. Fortunately for us, it is located in Deer Lodge, MT, which is a little known town only about an hour from where we currently spend our summers. The National Park is called the Grant-Kohrs Ranch, and is approx. 60 miles from the capital city of Helena. Each summer, the ranch has what they... [Read more]
On the road with kids in tow…
I LOVE to travel with elementary aged kids – they are so involved, and are great travel companions! Since they are also generally quite opinionated at this age, and making certain decisions for themselves, we will skip the ‘dress’ and ‘food’ ideas , and get straight to the ‘things to do in the car’ ideas! I’m going to steer clear of electronic gadgets... [Read more]
What is it with snarky campers???
I realize that my next post is supposed to follow suit of my previous few and be about traveling with school-age kids, but today I really need to vent. It has to do with our new neighbors, injustice, inconsideration, and snarkiness (is snarkiness a word???). Of course it also has to do with a campground… We have put approx. 45 thousand miles on our trailer in the last 2 years. We have... [Read more]
On the road with a preschooler…
I LOVE the preschool stage!!! Kids this age tend to be gung-ho for just about anything! And a road trip is right up their alley (at least it was until they had been in the car for 15 minutes!). There are so many things that preschoolers can do (I’m thinking mainly of ages 2 to 5ish): Clothing: Choose outfits based on comfort. Dressing up the princess in frilly, scratchy finery... Roadtrippin’ with a Toddler…
There are a few things you can do that can make a trip with a toddler more enjoyable – here are my tips (and I would love to hear yours!)… Everything from Traveling with Baby applies here too, with a few additions. Clothing: Dress for comfort. And don’t over dress – it’s easier to cover them if they are chilly than to have to pull off the road to unbuckle and undress.... [Read more]
Tips on traveling with baby…
Having 11 kids, ages 1 to 21 (with another on the way), and having traveled over 40k miles in the last 2 years, AND having spent quite a bit of time doing short road trips before we became full-time RVers, we have a little bit of experience in the field of traveling with kids. Over the years, we have picked up a few tips that make on the road more enjoyable, and hopefully easier, when traveling with... [Read more]
Conserving Fridge Space while Dry Camping…
For us, summer always means a few camping trips. Dry camping, camping trips. You know, no KOA store, no electrical plug in, no unlimited water… Now, unlike some, our family LOVES to dry camp – and over the years we have learned a few tips that make it easier to last a week in a remote location without having to leave camp to restock supplies. For our family, we don’t want... [Read more]
Historic Fort Laramie N.M., WY
We had the opportunity to stop at Fort Laramie National Historic Site, in Wyoming. This was a great fort, with many restored buildings, military displays, and historically accurate furnished rooms. During the summer months, the fort offers ranger programs and has reenactors around the grounds to answer questions. And anytime of the year is a great time to participate in their Jr. Ranger... Focus on YOUR Family while traveling…
This past week we found a great take-a-break stop for those of you traveling I-25 through Colorado! For us, it was a rainy day and we were looking for some inside entertainment, and remembered hearing that Focus on the Family has a Welcome Center that is open to the public (and free!)! Located right off of the interstate in Colorado Springs, the FotF campus is a beautiful place to stop... [Read more]
