A Clean Trailer Makes for a Happy Camper

A Clean Trailer Makes for a Happy Camper

Or at least  Hubby is a happy camper. In honor of Father’s Day on Sunday, I’d like to talk about the guys who take such pride in their rigs. They shine them up before each camping trip, they wash, wax and even scrub if they have to. Hubby is one of those men, so I thought I’d talk about how he keeps the trailer so nice. Little Man helping Hubby clean the camper Black marks are a  scourge to... [Read more]

The Economics of Camping

The Economics of Camping

I almost didn’t write this blog entry, but the more I thought about it, the more I knew I needed to do it.  After my last entry about our backyard test run, there were some comments from experienced campers about the quality of our tents.  I have read similar comments on various forums and blogs.  Some experienced campers like to lecture new campers about the “quality” (read this... [Read more]

Everybody Has A Job

Everybody Has A Job

Early on in our camping adventure, like before we even bought the camper, Hubby had decided it would be a team effort when we went camping. As we were all thinking about how perfect this 3 bunk Sunline was for our family, Hubby told the twins, we’ll buy it, but only if you promise to help every time we go out camping. The boys were both in agreement, and so off to find the salesman we went. Helping... [Read more]

What I Learned from Our Backyard Tent Camping Test Run – part 2

What I Learned from Our Backyard Tent Camping Test Run – part 2

In case your just joining me, here is a review of part 1 of the things I learned from our test run: Always check the weather forecast.  This one is self-explanatory.  A “surprise” thunderstorm caused us to postpone our test run by one day because I didn’t do a last minute check of the weather. Even tents that are zipped up can leak. I had no idea this could happen, and our son ended up sleeping... [Read more]

Free is Good

Free is Good

When Herr’s Snacks are involved it’s even better.  We’ve always been on the frugal side, and with the way the economy is, there seem to be more people who are looking to be frugal as well, so I thought I’d share one of our little secrets. We often look for factory tours when we are visiting places ( just Google the area you’re going to visit).  Many companies are happy... [Read more]

What I Learned From Our Backyard Tent Camping Test Run- Part 1

After many delays, we finally got to do a camping test run in our backyard.  I don’t remember where I first read that a test run was a good idea, but I am so glad I read it.  We learned a lot from this experience, and this is part 1 of our newfound knowledge.  Always check the weather forecast.  A couple of days before the test run, I checked the weather forecast, and things looked great. ... [Read more]

A Visit to Gettysburg’s New Museum and Visitor Center

A Visit to Gettysburg’s New Museum and Visitor Center

On the Friday before Mother’s Day the older two took dear old mom to Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center, now I know that might not seem like much of a gift to some women, but to me, it was the perfect gift. I had been at the old building many times through out the years, the musty smell, the artillery sitting in the center of the building, the electric map, all burned such... [Read more]

Tips for the First Camping Trip of the Season

Tips for the First Camping Trip of the Season

So it’s with great anticipation that we are getting our camper ready for the first camping trip of the season. Hubby has pulled it out from its winter resting place and we’ve begun to get everything swept out. Thankfully we set traps this year (that Hubby checked every week) so no little friends to greet us (even though I was raised on a farm, I despise mice!!!) We took out the camping chairs and... [Read more]

Cooking While Tent Camping

Cooking While Tent Camping

There is a reason I am addressing cooking last on my preparation list.  It scares me! I have to keep reminding myself that I don’t have to be a gourmet chef when we camp out, but I do have to provide something for us to eat or I will have a mutiny on my hands. Seriously, any pressure I feel about preparing well-balanced meals when camping is pressure I have put on myself.  My husband and son are... [Read more]

Easy Modifications for Your Camper

Easy Modifications for Your Camper

Lucky for me I’ve got a pretty handy hubby, so he’s been able to make some small modifications to out travel trailer to make life a little easier. We have a spilt bathroom (I guess that’s what they call it) where the tub and potty are on one side of the camper and the mirror and sink are on the other. The only drawback is, there’s no place to put extra toilet paper, washcloths, clothes, etc. Good... [Read more]
