Snowbird Destinations: WHERE to ROOST?
January 15, 2013 by Rex Vogel · Leave a Comment
Snowbirds are typically retired seniors who have the desire and financial ability to be away from home for extended periods of time. As our population ages the number of people considering this lifestyle increases.

Every winter, more than 1 million RV snowbirds wing south to the U.S. Sunbelt to escape the winter cold.
RVers who enjoy the snowbird lifestyle range from retired seniors, who have the wherewithal to journey far from home for extended periods of time, to Baby Boomers dipping their toes in the water.
The available options are unlimited enabling snowbirds to design their own lifestyle to suit their financial ability and social preferences.
The basic question is WHERE to GO? How to choose winter roosts out of the hundreds of RV parks available to you?
There are many differences between the offerings that each southern state has to offer. Where snowbirds migrate is based on a number of factors.
What type of things do you like to do? Do you enjoy fishing, boating, hiking, biking, or ATV activities? Do you favor flea markets, farmers markets, festivals, parades, casinos, theme parks, dancing? Are you a rock hound or into antiques?
Do you like birding, photography, arts and crafts, golf, Pickle ball, Shuffle board, or music jams?
While some snowbirds spend the winter months traveling from one warm-weather location to another, others enjoy long-term stays at RV parks and resorts that cultivate a sense of community among seasonal residents.
Warm weather hubs such as Arizona, Southern California, Florida, and Texas are tops for their predictable warm weather. But other states are also becoming popular—Nevada, Utah Dixie, New Mexico, Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi.

The majority of snowbirds migrate straight south from their northern home. As a result most snowbirds from the Northwest tend to winter in Arizona and Southern California; those from the Midwest often winter in South Texas; and snowbirds from the Northeast most likely will head to Florida.
To assist snowbirds in answering the basic question, WHERE to ROOST, the editors and consultants of the Good Sam RV Travel Guide & Campground Directory selected Top Snowbird Parks from its database of more than 14,000 RV resorts and campgrounds across North America; each campground is personally inspected and rated by a Good Sam consultant team.
The Top Snowbird Parks are among the hundreds of RV parks that dot the U.S. Sunbelt, from the deserts of California and Arizona to Florida’s tropical Gulf Coast.
Many of the RV parks and resorts on the Good Sam RV Travel Guide list provide amenities designed for long-term guests, including spas, pools, yoga classes, personal trainers, and computer rooms.
These RV parks have everything a seasoned snowbird could want, from fun-filled activities to luxurious spa treatments and well-appointed clubhouses. Best of all, the parks are located in some of the most popular snowbird destinations in the United States, such as the rugged desert southwest, the tropical gulf and stunning Atlantic Coast.
