The slogan for Mississippi State Parks is they’re always in season. While camping, hiking, fishing and other park related activities might seem more toward warmer weather, the winter months are a great time to make a trip to a state park.
No matter where you’re located, there is a state park not too far way. With an assortment of amenities at each park, they’re set up for family recreation that’s value priced. Whether it’s a day trip or a four-day weekend to get away for a while, you’ll be pleased with what you find at a state park.
While you may know about the park in your area, there are plenty to choose from and each offer something different and unique. Below are five parks you should see if you have the opportunity and it is true, they’re always in season.
Roosevelt State Park, Morton: Named Best Park by Mississippi Magazine, this is one of the most popular parks in the state. Quality accommodations and located just off I-55, Roosevelt has a variety of activities at the park making it a great family spot.
J.P. Coleman, Iuka: Nestled next to Pickwick Lake, this park offers a picturesque setting. It’s one of the most scenic areas in the state and is an excellent choice for a long weekend.
Percy Quin, McComb: This park has a little bit of everything. From golf to fishing, you’ll find something for every member of the family at Percy Quin.
Trace, Pontotoc: In the heart of northeast Mississippi, Trace is geared toward people who enjoy being outside. Its equestrian trails, excellent fishing and other amenities make this park popular.
LeFleurs Bluff, Jackson: Mayes Lake and the golf course make this an outdoor oasis in the metro Jackson area. It’s scenic wooded setting make it a great place to relax next to the Capital City.
