Chill Out at Lake Mead RV Village!

Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Nevada, was the first NRA created in the United States; it stretches from southern Nevada to northwestern Arizona, along the Colorado River. Lake Mead is the largest man-made lake in the United States, the result of building Hoover Dam on the Colorado River. Lake Mead RV Village is in the NRA, just 6 miles from Hoover Dam. It’s ideal for those who would like to take the time to explore marvelous attractions, water sports, wildlife refuge areas and other recreational offerings within and surrounding the 1.5 million acres of NRA wilderness. Even in the hottest months of the year the lake is still cool and refreshing.

Naturally Hoover Dam is the NRAs most popular tourist attraction. Tours are offered daily. In October 2010 the longest single-span concrete arch bridge in the Western Hemisphere opened as an alternate to driving over Hoover Day. The Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge (Colorado River Bridge) rests on the tallest pre-cast concrete columns ever constructed. There is a sidewalk across the bridge on the north side where great views of Hoover Dam are possible. You’ll find pedestrian and visitor amenities including a parking lot, trail, and interpretive plaza.

Fishing is very popular because of Lake Mead’s plentiful fish species: bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, and sunfish are abundant. Visitors can rent speed and/or fishing boats at nearby Callville Bay Marina.

Lest you think all the excitement is outside of Lake Mead RV Village, rest assured that you can have a great time just relaxing lakeside in the Park. There’s the Village Hall to be enjoyed. This freestanding gathering spot and meeting place has a cozy lobby with a fireplace, 2 meeting rooms and a beautiful outdoor patio with tables and chairs. There’s a Bocce Ball court and horseshoe pits on site. The Park includes115 sites (big rig, pull thru and back in) with full hook-ups, picnic tables and many with fire rings. Free cable television, including Showtime®— and free Wi-Fi— are offered. There’s a large convenience store so you don’t have to worry about grabbing groceries, snacks, beverages, ice and toiletries as needed. Plus, the restrooms and shower facilities are large, clean and convenient; the laundry room is open 24 hours a day. The Park’s management is cordial and professional, offering great customer service and friendly, knowledgeable information about the area. Get out of the cold and plan to enjoy the mild temperatures around Lake Mead. Plan to stay a week or longer and really check out the area. You may even want to take the 45-minute drive into Las Vegas to try your luck at the tables?

Lake Mead RV Village is located on Highway 93/95 south of Boulder City. Take Lake Mead National Recreation Area turn off (Lakeshore Drive) and enter the National Park Service fee station (fee or Golden Age Pass required.) Stay in the left lane; take your second right.
