One Week in Niagara Falls Canada

We had a week’s vacation in mind and had previously always camped in a tent. For the past year, we were considering buying a medium-sized RV but holiday time sneaked up on us before we got time to purchase one. So we trekked across the border from Buffalo, and continued down the QEW toward Toronto, with the hope we’d find something in the Niagara Region – either a motel or rental trailer.

Fortunately, just before crossing the Garden Skyway bridge in St. Catharines, we stopped at a tourist information center right on the highway. We picked up a copy of the OPCA (Ontario Private Campgrounds Association) directory and started making some calls. We needed a place that could accommodate two die-hard campers and their teenage son.

So we ended up in this cool place near Welland called Bissell’s Hideaway because it had everything – one-acre pool, acres of rolling land, water slides and best of all rental cabin-style trailers. www.bissellshideaway.com.

The first day we began to plan our week, and in this area, we had lots to work with. Less than a half hour away, we had Fallsview Casino Niagara, Clifton Hill at the Falls, Niagara on the Lake, Niagara Falls, the Maid of the Mist boat ride – more than enough to fill the week.

There are several blocks of attractions, many of which satisfy the likes of husbands, wives and their children – young or old. We greeted the stars of music and film at the Movieland wax museum, saw over 70,000 square feet of rides and games at the Canadian Midway, Ripley’s Museum, walked through an enormous butterfly conservatory, and much more.

Each additional day offered something that catered to a totally different activity and taste than the day prior. For example, day two we decided to get a closer look at the Falls so we booked a trip on the Maid of the Mist boat, which travelled over the bustling Niagara River to within a long stone’s throw of the Falls – very exciting and intimidating! Next, we took the guided walking tour of the Journey behind the Falls – absolutely incredible. Day three, six and seven was enjoying our rental cabin and staying within the park, enjoying their activities – swimming, mini golf, paddle boats, bingo and our son was thrilled to go to the dance on Saturday night.

Needless to say, if you didn’t want to travel too far from the Buffalo border, the Niagara Falls, Ontario area offers numerous activities and attraction for young and old, with or without kids.
