An RVer’s Dream Golf Vacation

Planning a golf trip this year? Here is a real twist for choosing your next destination – the Niagara Region in Ontario, Canada. Yes, the Niagara Region. Also known as Canada’s wine capital, besides tasting some of the best wines in the world, you can also play some of the most beautiful and challenging golf course you will ever play.
Regardless of your mode of travel, car, SUV or RV, accommodations are in abundance – for every taste and style. Don’t forget, the Niagara Region is also one of Canada’s top tourist destinations, with the broadest offering of accommodations from downtown Niagara Falls and the Fallsview Casino to the historic Prince of Wales hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and finally to over 50 campgrounds and water parks in the Greater Niagara Region. We motor along in a 30-foot RV and, a favourite of ours, Bissell’s Hideway (www.bissellshideaway.com), recently installed pull-through, fully equipped sites with nice concrete pads/patios, to make your RV feel like home.
Enough about accommodations! Let’s get back to golf. If you stayed anywhere in the Niagara Region, you are mere minutes away from fabulous golf. A veritable golfer’s
dream, the Niagara Region offers unsurpassed golf experiences, combining inspiring scenery, a moderate climate and unique topography to create top-notch facilities for novices and advanced players alike. Over 40 golf courses are at the ready for teeing off, making for the largest concentration of links in all of Canada and a distinction as “Canada’s Golf Capital”. Every level of handicap will delight at the experiences and challenges available and the old adage, “a bad day of golf beats a good day at work” will definitely ring true for visitors of Niagara Region courses. So just to whet your appetite, here are my personal top four golf courses – but ask another, and his or her picks will likely be different.
One of the most beautiful and challenging courses is Peninsula Lakes in Pelham. Once a gravel quarry, Peninsula Lakes now boasts 27 championship holes spread over three distinct courses, the Hillside, Orchard and Quarry. Each course features undulating, manicured fairways, gardens at tee boxes and pristine lakes and caters to golfers of all levels and abilities. In Niagara Falls another must is the John Daly signature golf course – Thundering Waters is an 18-hole, par-72 with five tees at each, making it suited for players of all calibers. Amenities include banquet space, cart rentals, a driving range and more.
A real nostalgic trip for avid golfers is the Niagara on the Lake golf club. This course is both well placed and historic. Open since 1875, it holds claim to being North America’s
oldest golf course and is located right along Lake Ontario’s shoreline in the historic village of Niagara-on-the-Lake. It is a beautiful but challenging 18-hole course.
And finally LochNess Links has been consistently ranked among the best in the province since we opened in 2000. This modern links-style course was designed by Graham Cooke & Associates and it encompasses 225 acres once owned by the St. Lawrence Seaway Authority.
