Making a Major Life Change After 50, Continued…

Yes, we are finally about to embark on our cross country move from Wisconsin to Taos, NM. We recently accepted an offer on our Manitowoc home and hopefully it will close without a hitch in May 30th. But moving after 50 seems more complicated and difficult than it was at 20.

Is it that I miss the memories of my children growing up here? Yes and no. I love all the memories of raising our children in that home, but realize they are precious memories, not the reality of what I am living now. I am ready to live in a location that gives me more of what I want to do. That place is Taos. It has a multitude of hiking, camping and other outdoor activities. Terry and I will be able to find a new hike to do every day of the week if we so desire.
[2]And we will be able to find a new singer, band or lecture to listen to or restaurant that appeals to us as often as we will be able to afford looking for them. And for those times we must stay home, we will always enjoy the KTAO Solar Radio station. It is just a good “fit” for us!
In Taos, we have a lifestyle we enjoy as well as entertainment and recreational opportunities that we have lacked for a long time in our lives, due to the fact that we were focused on raising our children. Not to mention a back porch view of the most amazing mountain we have seen. This is our chance.

But, even though this is something that makes a great deal of sense to us, both logically and emotionally, it is not easy. I tend to worry more about the details than I remember doing as a much younger adult. It about put me over the edge trying to figure out how and which company we were going to engage to provide internet service to our new home when we were there over spring break. It was so important to me because I am also employed as an online college professor, teaching two classes and holding seminars on two separate evenings each week. I require internet service for that purpose; but also for many other reasons. I rely on the internet for so much of my contact with the outside world. And to post my pieces to the Woodall’s site and for the small business I run online. Just making the decision about which company and what plan to choose caused me an incredible amount of distress, but we were finally able to make the choice. My anxiety level went down exponentially when I was informed it was installed earlier this week and given the network and password names.
I know we have all the appliances we need at our new home. I know we have electrical service and propane fuel already delivered. I now just need to trust that all will workout well with our ultimate move. Even though this is something I want and need, I have some difficulty seeing everything work out well on its own.
