Carnivore Heaven…

Peter's BBQ columbus, TX. THE best brisket!!!While we were near Houston recently, we abandon our trailer park kids (let the kids stay home and watch movies) while we went out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary and my hubby passing a course he took in Houston. We had heard from the campground manager that the little BBQ joint just a few miles down the road was a great place to eat, so we decided to venture out for their Friday Night All You Can Eat Shrimp, Catfish, FROG LEGS, and BBQ. 2 buffets for $17 sounded like a good deal, so we left the kids to their ramen noodles (their preferred meal when we are gone since I won’t let them eat it when I’m home ;) ), and wondered what we were in for at this little back country eatery.

hill country bbq place between Houston and AustinPulling up, we glanced at each other – Peter’s isn’t the fanciest of joints – but apparently it’s because they are too busy smoking the most fabulous brisket and ribs!  We probably would not have chosen to stop and eat here if it were not for the rave reviews by our campground manager.   We got in line, paid for our buffets and sweet teas, and grabbed our classy styrofoam plates and cups from the abundant pile near the cash register. Vaughn headed for the fried food buffet where he would find the catfish, shrimp, and frog legs, while I stood in line to be served brisket, chicken, ribs, and sausage, all sliced to order.

This place is carnivore heaven! Friday night seems to be the night of choice at Peters, they offer their Friday night all-you-can-eat buffet 2 for $17.99. Each Friday they go through approximately 80 pounds of ribs, 30 whole chickens, 40 link sausages, and about 20 #15 briskets. Not bad for a small, local eatery off a minor highway in the backcountry!

It was our first time to try frog legs. Don’t know that I would choose them over anything else, but they were certainly edible! :D Our favorite was the smoked brisket, and the fried catfish (tho I think we had such an interest in the catfish so that we would know what we were in for when the kids cooked up what they were catching in the nearby river!). We enjoyed our meal, and when it came time to leave, the owner was kind enough to sell me some extra frog legs to take home so the kids could try them too!

Peter’s is definitely a must-stop if you find yourself heading from Houston to Austin! Located at 301 W State Highway 71, Fayetteville, TX 78940, Peter’s is not on the web, but is worth the drive to check it out site-unseen!

I agree with you…there is nothing better than fried catfish. Your post made me hungry for brisket. Thanks for the review!
