Red Laser: My Favorite Smart Phone App!

I am excited to write this post as I am really excited about this application that I downloaded around the beginning of the year for my HTC Desire Android Smart Phone. There was no charge for it and it has already received several updates and saved me over $30! It is the Red Laser app, offered by EBay. Phone w/Red Laser app in upper left corner I was first made aware of this application by my son-in-law Nate Lyman (actually he just became my son in law June 24, 2011, but has felt like family for a long time). Nate is a Senior Software Engineer with EBay and, while Red Laser was initially developed by someone else, EBay bought it last year. Nate “wrote the code” for the app and basically created it for Android phones like mine. He also added a lot of new features for both the Android and IPhone versions.  I think he’s a genius! But, back to my love of this app. Shortly after I downloaded it, my husband and I were out shopping for a mount for a new flat screen TV we had received for... [Read more...]

Patti’s Saga of an RV Rookie: How the Intellicast Weather App Might Save Your RV or You

August 2, 2011 by · 4 Comments

An iPad or iPhone app that could save your life? I’d like to be exaggerating, but I think not. Our Whitefish RV Park neighbors www.whitefishrv told us what happened as they drove from South Dakota to Montana this past July: (Read more about South Dakota campgrounds and things to do in South Dakota.) They kept hearing vague comments on South Dakota radio stations about a small storm that “might be headed their way”…lots of casual station banter filled with “may be’s” and “might be’s “interspersed with stories of two guys whose suspenders broke at their 60th class reunion and how that impacted the event, and eventually, their entire farm community. The weather report ranked right down there with busted suspenders in importance. My friends didn’t think the ‘maybe’ storm sounded bad. But Larry says to Anne, ” You know what? Why don’t you download that Intellicast app those last folks told us about. You never know.” She did. Larry and Anne had... [Read more...]

Tempflow Mattress and My Sleep Experiment

Tempflow Mattress and My Sleep Experiment

Ready for Testing I take sleeping very seriously. As the days get longer and the nights get increasingly shorter, the time I have to sleep becomes more precious every day. If I don’t get a solid six hours of quality sleep a night I am irritably, groggy, sore, and basically a drain upon society. That is why choosing a mattress can become a monumental challenge. If I don’t choose a good mattress then I can say ‘good night’ to a good night’s rest, and that does not sit well with me (or my wife for that matter). So when Relief Mart contacted me about testing and reviewing the Tempflow Mattress for RVs and home, you can imagine my hesitation. Before I even took the mattress out of the packaging, I wrote up a list of the qualities I wanted in a mattress, and I decided right then and there that for me to recommend this Tempflow mattress, it would have to meet all these criteria. Support I have had my run-ins with lumpy, droopy, hard-as-rock mattresses in the past, and they were not pleasant... [Read more...]

A potpourri of useful apps when you are camping

August 1, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

This week our theme is all about apps you could use while camping.   I was debating on which app I could concentrate my time on but it dawned on me that there are many good apps out there for various things.   So I thought I could present you with some of the apps I consider essential for your camping trips whether you have an RV or a regular tent. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the word potpourri as a miscellaneous collection : medley So I thought this word would perfectly illustrate exactly what I am trying to do in this post – presenting a variety of apps that could be useful for RVers and campers everywhere! *************************************** SAS Survival For over 20 years, the SAS Survival Guide has been the definitive guide to surviving any situation, anywhere in the world.  Written by former SAS soldier and instructor, John “Lofty” Wiseman, this application brings you the elite training techniques of Britain’s toughest fighting force in the most... [Read more...]
