On the road again. Just can’t wait to get on the road again.
Ahaa…… It feels great!
The girls volunteered to look in on Grandma so we could hook up and head out for a couple of weeks.
For a while on Saturday, I wondered if we were going to get away this morning. I was washing the Great White when I noticed something on the front tire. On closer inspection, it turned out to be a cut about 3 inches long and a quarter of an inch deep. Definitely not what you want a tire to look like when you are cruising down the Interstate.
Finding a 22.5 inch truck steer tire on Saturday is not easy. All of the normal big tire distributors were closed. I ended up at a TA truck stop a few miles north of us and after about four hours and more money than I want to talk about, I was good to go with two brand new front steer tires.
We pulled out this morning heading for the Outer Banks of North Carolina – our favorite destination being the Holiday Trav-L-Park Resort for Campers in Emerald Isle.
When we crossed the State Line entering North Carolina we decided to take a quick break at the Welcome Station. The facility was packed, apparently with summer vacation travelers heading for the beaches. I browsed the array of camping brochures while I waited for Nancy and Oscar to finish their walk. It was obvious North Carolina has a huge offering of campgrounds ranging from the Smokey Mountains to the ocean beaches.
We arrived at our destination a little after four in the afternoon. We registered and then were escorted our favorite site on top of a hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
I am sure I set some records unhooking the truck, dropping the jacks and setting up the camper. We were extremely anxious to get out on the beach – after all, this is what we came for!
The ocean was beautiful and the wide expanse of white sand and broken sea shells bordered by dunes covered with Sea Oats looked pristine. People were surf fishing, swimming and busy making all sorts of sculpture in the white sand. One of my favorite was a turtle complete with shells for eyes. I only wish I had the artistic talents to make something like that. Unfortunately, the best I can do is a castle wall made of inverted buckets of sand.
What was especially neat about this day is it is also my birthday. Yep, sixty-five years young! My gosh, how did it get here so fast? It seems like just yesterday I was celebrating my big four-O with black balloons and streamers reminding me I was “Over the Hill”. Well folks, I am glad I finally got over that hill! The view and playground from this side is a thrill.
It is great to be on the road again!
Goin’ places that I’ve never been
Seein’ things that I may never see again
And I can’t wait to get on the road again
On the road again – Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway.
We’re the best of friends insisting that the world keep turning our way - and our way is on the road again.
HAPPY CAMPING TRAILS TO ALL!
