Patti’s Saga of an RV Rookie: The Ugliest, Tastiest Christmas Dessert Ever!

It’s ugly…real ugly..but boy, is this chocolate crockpot dessert good! It’s perfect for the holidays; that special time of year some of us pretend we like having people over. Ok, Ok, I do like company (on occasion), but for the most part, I’m just a family kind of gal.
However, come Christmas time, even I like to put on the jolly good show. My last blog presented a “Guaranteed-to-draw-folks-to-your-awning” recipe: Crockpot Cranberry-Hot Apple Cider . I love having a bubbling crock pot of hot apple cider sitting under the awning with a stack of paper cups, and pretending I’m friendly. Actually, I am friendly; it might be that I love reading my Nook a little too much.
Now, let’s set our sites on that holiday dessert crowd. I’ve found, ‘lo these many lazy years, that serving dessert is way easier than having people over for dinner, yet you get almost as much credit for it. Here’s a ” Come on over; where ya from?” crockpot dessert to have lying in wait under the awning, ready to decimate the diets of unsuspecting passersby.
Cautionary note: This is one butt ugly dessert. However, tt cooks up into a cakey type texture that was so good nestled alongside vanilla ice cream that Ray and teen son almost fainted. Only a slight exaggeration…point being the family went wild. It’s an easy dessert to make in an RV and it’s great served hot or cold.
[1]Scrooge loves this Ugly Dessert. So will you!
Ugly Chocolate in a Crockpot.
1 package chocolate cake mix
1 pint sour cream
1 small package instant chocolate pudding
1 small bag chocolate chips
3/4 cup oil
4 eggs
1 cup water
Spray crockpot with non-stick spray. Mix all ingredients. Pour into crockpot.
Cook on low for 5-6 hours. It should be moist, spongy, and cake like. But, it can be almost any texture and it won’t matter; it will taste great.
Serve in a bowl with ice cream or just naked.
Note: I forgot to spray the crockpot first. Not one of my better moves.
You could easily cut this recipe in half and still have a large amount
