Luxury in Sin City

While a large number of campers have the goal of getting back to nature, for us full-timers there are times when you prefer a bit of luxury. We found that little bit of luxury at the Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort (LVMCR). LVMCR describes itself as “an Exclusive Class ‘A’ Resort.” This resort is 41 acres and provides over 400 large sites, 5 pools, 6 spas, tennis courts, exercise room, 9-hole putting course, staffed gatehouse, cable tv, 50-amp hookups, and over 1000 palm trees. They advertise wireless internet, but charge $5 per day to “guests” (non-owners). They also advertise an onsite restaurant, but it is closed at this time (until they can find new managers to take over). The first Saturday night we were here, the resort provided a catered party serving BBQ and featuring a live country band (Stetzen ).
While the onsite restaurant is closed, there is a shopping center across the street with many large and small stores (including a Target and a World Market) and many places to eat (including an In-N-Out Burger and Famous Dave’s BBQ ). The location is just a few miles from the famous Las Vegas Strip . While Las Vegas has a very good bus system , and the resort is fairly close to the strip, it is not convenient to use the bus to get to the strip (it would take about an hour by public bus). It seems that like large cities in the Northeast, the preferred method of transportation is taxicab, and the office has a list of cab companies you can call. Of course, most hotels on the strip have free parking garages available.
We chose to stay in Las Vegas because our family has pointed out that since we began traveling full-time, we always seem to be somewhere else on the holidays. Since I have a brother in Las Vegas, and my parents normally spend Las Vegas at his house, we chose to spend November in Las Vegas and attempt a family holiday over Thanksgiving. We will fly our daughter and grandson out for the holiday, and other relatives will also be here. It is always fun to get 4 generations of the family together (as of last year, we are no longer able to get 5 generations together, but realize how lucky we were that we could do this for several years—not many children get to meet their great-great-grandfather).
While our grandson is here, we plan on taking him to Disneyland (about 4 hours away) and to see Disney’s Broadway presentation of The Lion King (at the Mandalay Bay ); not to mention all of the family activities such as the roller coasters , Hoover Dam , Valley of Fire , and Red Rock Canyon , as well as exploring places like the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace and (of course) the Fremont Street Experience downtown. While the resort allows children to visit, the activities are designed for adults, so the entertainment for our grandson will be outside the resort.
Of course, there is also a lot to be said about the site where we are staying—with the 4 palapas, outdoor television and kitchen, and plenty of comfortable places to sit and relax. With the low humidity, the breeze (normally natural, but on still days we can use the fans in the palapas) makes sitting outside quite comfortable; and, even though it is November, the high temperatures have been in the mid-80s (29C) (which is above normal).
So, for anyone who has a Class A Motorcoach and wants to enjoy a luxurious setting in Las Vegas, Nevada, this is definitely the place. You can find more information about the resort at their website (Las Vegas Motorcoach Association ).
