The Rally 2010 – and the Winner is………

[1]Splendede donated a RV washer/dryer combo as a prize for a drawing held at the Woodall’s booth Saturday at 2:00 p.m. This was, of course, part of The Great RV Rally in Louisville, KY this past week.
Anxiety was high for the folks gathered at the drawing as Donna Brown reached into the box and pulled out the winning name. Linda and Karl Deardoff from Camp Hill, PA were the lucky winners of the washer/dryer combo. Karl was present at the drawing — he was extremely excited, noting that their RV was prepped for a washer and dryer but they did not currently have one.

I commented in an earlier posting that Nancy and I have a WD combo in our fifth wheel. It is a welcome appliance when we are camped on an extended stay and have a full hook-up. While RV WD combos are much smaller than the washer you may have at home, they will handle all of your traveling laundry needs.
[3]Tanya Tucker Performed for the Rally Attendies
The Rally was fantastic. If you did not attend, you missed a tremendous experience. Tanya Tucker put on a great show Friday night. She sang songs from her beginnings to the present and had a special appearance from her 21 year old daughter, Presley Tucker. Presley did two solo songs that just wowed the audience. There is no doubt that she is following in her Mom’s footsteps as her voice is fabulous.
I guess I don’t need to mention it was hot and humid outside. Fortunately, Nancy and I had reserved an electric site. Big diesel generators placed in the lot where we were parked did an excellent job of providing power to maybe a thousand RV’s. Other lots were non-electric. Folks parked there used their own generators to run their air conditioners or simply endured the heat.
Shuttle buses ran from the various parking lots to the exhibition center, which was extremely well air conditioned. We did not have to wait more than a minute or two at any time for an air conditioned shuttle to take us to our camper or the exhibition center.

Nancy and I were literally overwhelmed with the size of the Rally and the exhibition center. It was estimated that over 3,500 RVs were parked in the various lots. Inside there was food, games, a constant offering of seminars on RVing and all the vendors and exhibits. It was a good thing the rally lasted four days because it would be impossible to see it all in a lesser period of time.
We really enjoyed the networking with other RVers. We met some old friends and lots of new ones. One of the more amusing discoveries was the wife of the couple parked behind us grew up in Lynchburg, VA – which is here I spent part of my childhood and my grandmother lived. We determined that her parents provided milk, butter and eggs for my grandmother. That was back in the days when you placed your empty glass bottle on the porch with a quarter in the bottle and the next morning you had a fresh bottle of milk, eggs and butter on your doorstep.
[5]The Show Floor Displays Seemed to go on Forever!
I have lots of writing I want to do over the next few weeks about the rally, campgrounds we visited in route and our “troubles on the road” with an errant rear wheel that came off our camper,
We arrived home safely despite our troubles yesterday afternoon. We had a great time and will cherish the memories for years to come.
