Creating useable space in the bathroom…

Creating useable space in the bathroom…

Having a large family, it is somewhat difficult to find a place for everyone to put their ‘stuff’.  This is especially true in the toy hauler’s bathroom!     I thought that I would share with you my favorite tool on my quest to get the bathroom organized; my over the door shoe organizer – which is not over the door.  I took a full sized organizer (found at WalMart, I think), trimmed it down to the size that I wanted, and sewed under the rough edges (I just took off some length by cutting it about a half inch below the last row I wanted intact, ironed it under, and zig-zag stitched on top of the trim – looks like I bought it that way!).  Instead of using the over the door bracket that came with the organizer, my son took some washers and screws and attached the organizer to the wall (he did it at the top of the wall to make sure the screws grabbed backing for support).  You could easily cover the screws with ribbon or wooden trim if you... [Read more...]

One Tank Trip for Alberta Camping

This One Tank Trip as seen in the 2010 Woodall’s North American Campground Directory. Taking a trip through Alberta is like finding yourself in the middle of a classic piece of artwork. Everywhere you look, you see such awe-inspiring beauty that it almost seems too perfect to be real. The province provides the traveler with snowy mountain ranges, glassy lake and rivers, deep blue skies, and adventure around every bend in the road. A choice spot in Canada is Alberta camping. Using Crowsnest Pass as the starting point, let’s have a look around before we set out on this one tank trip. After you’ve set up the rig, head over to the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre, which is a fascinating facility that showcases various events and contributions from the region. Highlights include an examination of early coal mining, as well as the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway and the 1903 Frank Slide, an avalanche and rockslide for which this center was named. Another spot of interest... [Read more...]

One Tank Trip for Idaho Camping

This One Tank Trip as seen in the 2010 Woodall’s North American Campground Directory. If you’re having a hard time deciding where to go for a getaway, if you’ve got that feeling of “been there, done that, bought all the souvenirs,” then why not give Idaho a shot? Even if you have visited the Gem State before, it’s a safe bet that there’s plenty more waiting for you to explore. After all, this is Lewis and Clark country; it was practically designed with exploration in mind! So fuel up and hit the road, because there’s a wide world of vacation fun awaiting your arrival in Idaho. Starting off this one tank trip in Palisades, you’ll find yourself in a land that’s vast and largely unspoiled. A Night at the Prince of Wales Hotel

A Night at the Prince of Wales Hotel

On one of our recent camping trips to Glacier National Park, Montana, we made the journey over to its sister park in Canada, Waterton Peace Park. Together they are known as the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park.  As we travel to as many of our national and international parks as our time and funds allow, one of the things we like to do is investigate all of the National Park lodges and hotels that we can fit into our schedule. The Prince of Wales Hotel While in most cases, this will involve simply a walking tour of the structure, there are a few in which we have chosen to spend an evening, in spite of the fact that we are fully equipped with camping gear.  While the cost would be prohibitive for us and for many families to spend a week in such a locale, one night is a luxury to which we have treated ourselves several times. The kids have loved this! The Prince of Wales Hotel, in the Waterton half of the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park is one such hotel in which... [Read more...]

Video: Fairmont RV Park, Anaconda, Montana (Near Butte)

Fairmont RV Park, located between two historic cities – Anaconda and Butte, MT, is an easy off/on I-90 (Exit 211). Much of the lure of this part of the country is the Spirit of the American West. The Anaconda/Philipsburg area, the core of the Pintler Scenic Route, is blessed with year ’round recreation opportunities, scenic splendor, and plenty of history. Philipsburg, only 30 miles from Fairmont RV Park, was founded in 1886 as a trading center. It has a beautifully restored street front, and the Sweet Palace is “a must” — it’s an unbelievably huge Victorian Confectionary. Fishing in Montana’s big rivers is an angler’s dream; Rockhouds search for sapphires, garnets, crystals, quartz & amethyst. Mining history means untold numbers of Ghost towns. Anaconda, known for smelting copper for more than a century, is today a small town of friendly folks. Historical homes built in the 1880′s still stand tall with architectural beauty that... [Read more...]
