Videos for Breeze Lake RV Campground and Paul’s RV Park, Brownsville Texas

When you head south to Texas and you keep going and keep going, (and going and going) you’ll reach the very tip of Texas and find yourself in Brownsville, Texas. “On the Border by the Sea” is a slogan used in Brownsville and it fits as this remarkable city is on the Gulf of Mexico just north of the Mexican border. The area is beautifully tropical and the winter weather is quite mild making this a destination stop for many RVers looking for a retrieve from the harsher climes up north. When you are searching for a winter retreat or even a very warm summer spot to relax or perhaps to do a little bird watching, don’t miss Breeze Lake RV Campground and Paul’s RV Park. Both of these resorts are under new ownership and are undergoing some marvelous updates by owners who are themselves RVers and know and understand what we’re all really looking for in a park. Both parks were already very nice spots to be, but now you’re going to love what’s new. Enjoy these two videos knowing... [Read more...]

Entertainment on the Peninsula

In a blog a few months back we explored camping and outdoor activities in Peninsula State Park, Door County, Wisconsin. While it is one of the most beautiful state parks we have ever seen, and one I have been visiting since I was a child, the park is not the only draw attracting visitors to the area. No matter the weather, families, couples and individuals will find much to do on Wisconsin’s thumb. One of the biggest draws is The Peninsula Players Theatre. Celebrating their 75th year in 2010, Peninsula Players is America’s oldest professional resident summer theater. Their season typically runs from mid-June through mid-October and encompasses five different productions. Drawing actors and theatre professionals from companies in Chicago, New York and California, we have never been disappointed by a production at the “Theatre in a Garden”. The Players have recently opened their newly remodeled garden theatre, situated on the shores of Green Bay, and featuring heated floors... [Read more...]

Everybody Has A Job

Early on in our camping adventure, like before we even bought the camper, Hubby had decided it would be a team effort when we went camping. As we were all thinking about how perfect this 3 bunk Sunline was for our family, Hubby told the twins, we’ll buy it, but only if you promise to help every time we go out camping. The boys were both in agreement, and so off to find the salesman we went. Helping Dad stick the rainspout back on Hubby’s had two reason’s for this, one was so it didn’t land on dear old mom and dad to do all the work and two, so if they decided they’d want to camp as adults, they’d already know what to do. So far it’s worked out very well. We can set up camp in as little as 45 minutes, even quicker if it looks like the rain cloud is going to burst open on us! The twins will back Hubby in as I try to corral the little ones. Once the camper is set into place it’s the little ones job to carry the blocks that go under the jacks.... [Read more...]

McALLEN MOBILE PARK, McAllen Texas

In the very tip of Texas, McAllen Mobile Park is close to everything. Its central location makes it the perfect retreat from cold climates. Restaurants, hospitals, shopping and even night life activities abound in this tropical paradise location. During the winter months you’ll enjoy the very mild climate and the ripe citrus from the area. In McAllen Mobile Park you’ll probably be able to pick some of your own fruit, including the sought after Rio Red Grapefruit. This park offers tons of activities for the winter travelers or “Winter Texans” as they are called here. If you live in the northern states and need a place to escape the tough winter weather, head south; head way south to the tip of Texas, and spend those days among palm trees and fruit trees. You’ll also enjoy a great tropical swimming pool and tons of planned activities at McAllen Mobile Park. You’ll love the friendly staff here, too. I’ve heard the BBQ here is the best in Texas! Find more... [Read more...]

Our Camping Season Begins at Cheyenne Mountain State Park

June 2, 2010 by · 1 Comment

We just returned our first trip of the season.  I’m happy to report that a good time was had by all and everyone is home safe and sound. This yearly Memorial Day trek has become somewhat of a tradition.  And over the years, we’ve learned a thing or two to help us make our maiden voyage a more enjoyable one. First, we try not to stray too far from home.  After a whole winter off, we never know what might be in need of tweaking or repair. And since the weather is still a bit unpredictable at this time of year, we also steer clear of very high elevations. One last prerequisite of ours is to avoid major holiday traffic jams.  That’s why many of the mountain towns that require a trip up I-70 are out of the question.  Sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic on an 8% grade is never a great idea – especially with our monster of a trailer in tow. So this year, we settled on a trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado.  A mere 1 ½ hour trip from our house it offers a great place for our first... [Read more...]

Campsite Style Gourmet Cookin’ – Ummmm Good!

When Nancy and I are at home, the question “What do you want for dinner?” is frequently asked.  Neither one of us seem to have much imagination for the microwave or stove top. But, when we are camping,  I become the chief cook and bottle washer responsible for the meal planning and preparation – and I know I must get it right.   Nancy gets treated like a guest at meals and doesn’t need to worry about shopping, cooking or planning (unless she wants to).   I have a few specialties we traditionally fix, but I relish in coming up with a menu that contains delicious morsels that we do not usually try to fix at home.  Besides, foods cooked at home never taste as good as foods prepared while camping. I recently received a copy of the Woodall’s Dutch Oven Cookbook.  I spent several hours reading every recipe and the details of using a Dutch oven.  We have owned cast iron pots, but never a true Dutch oven with a tightly sealed lid and provisions for placing coals on top... [Read more...]
